Electron microscopy of responsive microgels
In project G1, structural properties and transitions of selected microgel systems will be investigated by transmission electron microscopy. As a broadly applicable approach, different cryo-TEM procedures will be established and further developed to meet the special requirements of microgel samples. In addition, in situ-studies will be performed in liquid environment on a new dedicated 200 kV FEG-TEM equipped with a liquid cell holder.  Applications to microgels will be performed in the presence of water or other suitable solvents and under variation of the temperature and other parameters and will be complemented by scanning force microscopy.
